René Kastner is a graduate of Graz Sociology and has been working in the field of social science research since 2009, when he documented the reconstruction after Hurricane Katrina during a research stay of several months in New Orleans, Louisiana. He expanded his expertise by working with a large number of personnel and by continuing to participate in conferences at home and abroad. Since 2017 he has been a regular guest lecturer at the German Academy for Management, Planning and Civil Protection.
He earned his master's degree with a comparative thesis on US and Austrian strategies in dealing with civil relief (also known as spontaneous aid). His methodological focus is on qualitative social research and mixed method approaches.
In the DCNA, René Kastner is currently responsible for the development of the area " of disaster control exercises" and is the contact person for the working group "Extreme weather events". In addition, he is involved in the design of the newsletter and takes care of other PR issues of the DCNA.
