KoBoToolbox was founded in 2005 by Phuong Pham and Patrick Vinck. In 2013, with funding from USAID, UNOCHA and IRC partnered with KoBoToolbox to take the existing tool and transform it into a comprehensive platform for humanitarian data collection. The resulting platform was launched in 2014 as a free tool with unlimited data collection and storage for humanitarian actors.

KoBoToolbox is a suite of tools for field data collection for use in challenging environments. Quickly collecting reliable information in a humanitarian – especially following a natural such as a large earthquake or a typhoon – is the critical link to saving the lives of the most vulnerable. Understanding the population’s needs is often neglected for lack of quick means to gather and analyze this crucial information. KoBoToolbox was created as a free and open-source toolkit for data collection and analysis in humanitarian emergencies and other challenging environments to address this urgent .

Real-time monitoring of supplementary immunization activities

Supplementary immunization activities and mass immunization campaigns are effective strategies for delivering vaccination to children who have otherwise been missed by routine services. Real-time monitoring (RTM) – activities that employ digital technologies to accelerate the sharing, analysis and use of data to improve campaign quality, such as KoBoToolbox – can enhance the quality of supplementary immunization activities and campaigns by helping implementers review progress against targets, identify issues and gaps, track supplies, human resources and vaccine sessions and make prompt decisions about corrective actions.
