Influencing Factors on Social Media Adoption in County-level Emergency Management Departments.
This qualitative study, part of a larger project, examines the adoption process of social media in county-level emergency management departments. Data was collected using in-depth, informant interviews with emergency management directors and their staff in seven counties within one slate located in the South. Using the diffusion of innovation theory and modified grounded theory analysis, the data was analyzed and two main factors emerged as influences on the adoption of social media: (1) inclination for risk-taking and associated attitude and (2) education and training on social media applications andprotocol.
